Preschool - Access & Affordability
The Association currently enrols 30 children who are from low income families, that is families whose income are less than $20,355 pa. These families are primarily unemployed/single families. Grants from the Dept of Community Services and Dept of Education cover some costs, but a flat daily fee of $19 per day and $9 per half day at Queanbeyan and $15 per day at Captains Flat (a small rural community 45klms from Queanbeyan) is charged to low income families to run the Early Intervention Program. Most of these families are not only dealing with financial strains, but the majority of children have problems associated with socialisation, ADD, language and speech delays and delayed development. Preschool is an essential tool to ensure that these problems can be addressed and if possible resolved to ensure a smooth transition to school and in more severe cases provides respite for the parent. << back to Previous Grants listing
