TECHNICAL AID TO THE DISABLED ("TAD")

Technical Aid to the Disabled (“TAD”), located in Sydney, has provided services to Australians of all ages with disabilities for over 30 years. TAD aims to “Improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and those caring for them, through the application of technology”.

“TAD” has designed a special chair called the “POSH” Chair.

TAD have constructed and designed modifications for Sebel and Postura school chairs to suit children aged between four and seven who are mentally able to attend school but have physical disabilities such as short stature, shortened or missing limbs, poor physical control or poor motor control.

The POSH chair features glides that make it easy to push in and pull the chair out from under the desk. Positioning fins are fitted directly onto a height adjustable bracket mounting under the chair. Positioning harnesses can generally be fitted if specifications are supplied by requesting therapists.

The POSH Chair extension is provided to the client at no cost, hence funding is required to pay for the chairs.

The POSH Chair is designed to enable these children with disabilities to attend regulation school on a daily basis without fear of injury. The chair enables the child to sit at a standard desk/table and thus be accepted alongside able-bodied peers. The child becomes more independent and experiences a feeling of self worth.

The grant that the Mary Potter Trust Foundation provided has helped to fund the production of a number of these chairs for children on a waiting list
