THE MIRABEL FOUNDATION The Mirabel Foundation, located in Victoria, was established in 1998 to assist children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now in the care of extended family (kinship care). Mirabel provides a diverse range of support services, which aim to minimise the negative effects of parental drug use on children and strengthen the capacity of kinship carers to provide a stable and nurturing environment for children. The Mirabel Youth Ambassadorsprogram was established to foster opportunities for young people to be active and positive members of the community, ultimately becoming mentors for younger children who have had similar experiences to them. Aged between 14 18 years, these young people have lived through immense trauma and sadness and yet continue on a journey that overcomes all adversity while breaking the negative cycle of drug addiction. Funding from the Mary Potter Trust Foundation assisted with the cost of a childrens recreation camp for a group of 20 Children and 5 Youth Ambassadors held in April 2007.
