Junuys Youth Business Enterprise (JYBE) - Bowraville NSW

Junuys Youth Business Enterprise is a co-operative group of young Indigenous artists (aged 18 – 24 years), who are working hard to put their enterprise on the business map as well as creating opportunities for themselves and other Indigenous youth in their community. The Junuys artists have come a long way in a short time, not only in their artistic skills but also in building on the skills that are necessary in running a business successfully. It is important for the Junuys youth and the town of Bowraville to nurture and grow these talents for the future benefits to the community. Junuys youth are on the verge of becoming a self-sustainable enterprise and need some help in the short term to realise their dream.

Junuys Youth Business Enterprise (JYBE) is a program of Bawrunga Aboriginal Medical Service (BAMS). BAMS began this youth business enterprise as a way of combating youth unemployment and building on arts /crafts and arts business skills as well as building self-esteem. The JYBE project has been running since March 2004.

The youth involved in the project paint traditional and contemporary artworks on canvas, create jewellery, manufacture and paint boomerangs, clap sticks, recycled furniture and other objects. The youth sell their works throughout the region at local markets, exhibitions and through their own shop located at he Bowraville workshops.

The Mary Potter Trust Foundation helped with funding to keep this project afloat so that all of the ideas to attain self-sustainability can be realised.
