INCITE YOUTH ARTS INC.

InCite Youth Arts exists to develop and celebrate youth arts and culture in Central Australia.

InCite produce quality youth arts activities engaging young people in creative expression. They create new opportunities for valuing and recognising the importance of the arts in positive lifestyle choices. InCite’s focus is on delivering programs at ‘grass roots’ level in consultation with Community Partners and Collaborators.

The project is for an innovative Performing Arts Project involving dance and performance workshops for young people attending Acacia Hill School, this is a special school for young people aged 5 to 25 years with a disability. The workshops will culminate in a performance as part of Alice Springs celebrations for the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPD). The performance will be a significant contribution to the arts components of these celebrations being coordinated by ArtsACA in Alice Springs throughout 2007.

This project seeks to address the absence of opportunities for young people with disabilities to explore, engage and participate in the performing arts.

This project provides unique development opportunities for these young people offering an experience of creating performance drawing on their own lives. This will be a creatively rewarding and satisfying experience that will reflect and reveal the lives of these young people, to both themselves and the audience. The performance will allow the process to culminate in new learning for the community about the potential of these young people and a point of reflection. This project will develop and promote arts activities as a means of enhancing how the broader community sees young people with disabilities as valued members of the Alice Springs community.

The funding received from Mary Potter Trust Foundation will help to assist with the proposed program of activities for this innovative Performing Arts Project.
