Homeworkers Voice - FairWear FairWear Victoria began in 1996 and is located in Melbourne, Victoria. FairWear aims to eliminate the exploitation of homeworkers and end sweatshop conditions in the garment industry. There are an estimated 330,000 homeworkers making clothes from homes and garages across Australia. These workers earn an average of $3.60 per hour and often work 12-16 hours per day without holiday pay, sick pay, superannuation or workers compensation. Vietnamese women make up around 70% of the homeworker workforce. Many of these women cannot drive and work in isolation in their homes. The project Homeworkers Voice, is a radio training project providing skills and support for Vietnamese women homeworkers to broadcast their issues. The project will train a group of 5 Vietnamese women in radio presentation skills in order to convey important messages about work health and safety to Victorian Vietnamese homeworkers. << back to Previous Grants listing
