For justice, not just charity

The Mary Potter Trust Foundation has been established by the Sisters of The Little Company of Mary. Its mission is to restore social equality in a society where the gap between incomes and opportunity seems to be widening.

The Foundation exists to support community groups and activities that work towards addressing
the human rights and social justice needs of the disadvantaged. It supports political, educational and resource efforts which will help those that are disadvantaged and marginalised, to become aware of and help develop their own individual talents and skills so that they can participate more fully in society.

For 120 years we've worked for fairness, and we are not about to stop now

The Little Company of Mary has had a long history of working with the disadvantaged in Australia. Following the example of their founder, the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary came to Australia in 1885 to work amongst the needy. One of their first acts was to establish a night refuge and soup kitchen for women and children in Sydney.

The faith, courage and initiative of the founder, The Venerable Mary Potter, continues to inspire people today. The sisters devote themselves to helping and praying for the sick and dying - regardless of class, nationality or creed.

Their activities and services in healthcare are known by a great many. They have created and operated hospitals and aged care facilities across Australia. Today, LCM Healthcare facilities operate across Sydney, Melbourne, ACT, Adelaide, Tasmania, Cessnock and Wagga Wagga.

The Sisters ministry has also seen them actively involved in working to implement basic human rights and the abolition of all forms of discrimination. Many Sisters have been involved in prison chaplaincy, Indigenous ministry, working with refugees and asylum seekers, the developmentally disabled and their families and HIV/Aids support.

While our nation has grown, so have the needs of the marginalised. In fact, as our community fabric has broken down, the needs of the minorities and the abused have increased. To find new ways of making our society just, the Sisters established the Mary Potter Trust Foundation in 2003.
